i bought this to use with my computer, it sounds great! its connected to some speakers i built (vifa woofers, scanspeak tweeter) ive also conected it to another pair of speakers (dayton rs150 woofe) and polk lsi9. it sounds great with every speaker ive tried it with! it wont distort almost at al at max volume. if you want to use this with a ipod or mp3 player, you will have to change 2 resistors inside (someone said how in another review, i havent done that yet, but i plan to) i dont use the auto on feature, its so easy to just push the on/off button on the front and it doesnt make any "thump" sound when you turn it on. i live in chile so the 220V switch was great for me! (make sure you change the fuse if you use 220V) the fan does work, it goes on a lot if you have the amp loud for a while, but when you turn the volume down it normaly goes off, its a very silent fan, the other reviewers proably just dont hear it go on cause its very quiet. i plan on buying another one and use it in bridged mode 150W per channel.

Bought 2 of these as successor to Hafler 220W amp driving rebuilt Dahlquist DQ10 speakers (using DQ electronic xover and subwoofer). Hafler tested after removal, still meets original specs. These Dayton amps are definite improvement in soundstage as well as midrange clarity, and effortlessly drive the speakers to row A levels. System even sounds better with rock and jazz (I listen mostly to classical including choral). Very impressive. I particularly like the self-test delay, which prevents enormous thump from preamp (used to use custom delay power activator, now used only for subwoofer amp). I should probably get a 3rd Dayton for the subwoofer! Great amp, very highly recommended. Incredible value.

I purchased these monoblocks to power my Left, Center and Right Klipsch KLF-30's in my home theater. Do keep in mind as you read my review that the Klipsch KLF-30's have a very high sensitivity rated at 102 db, so these amplifiers easily power these speakers.
These amplifiers are very impressive. They drive my KLF's to insane volumes well beyond 90db reference. Yes the fans do come on when really pushing things, but the fans are so good at cooling the amps that the fans only come on for short intervals. The amplifiers only get warm to the touch on the back 3rd of the top of the amplifier. The cooling fan in these amplifiers are not loud, and if you're cranking things to the point of kicking the cooling fan on then you can't hear the slight whirring of the fan anyways. I would highly recommend these amplifiers as a great option for someone wanting a monoblock that has the ability to cool its self off which in my mind is vital in an amplifier. Most of us can't afford the money to get a massive solid state amplifier to effortlessly amplify our speakers, so we choose amplifiers that get the job done, but not without breaking a sweat. Every time you heat electronics up, you shorten the life of circuit boards, capacitors and solder joints. So why not get an amplifier that actually has the ability to save its own life = cool its self off when it starts to get hot?
I would love to see bench test results for this amplifier, I do believe that it does what it is rated to do quite well if not better.

I had a pair of Polk Audio monitor speakers sitting around the house that I had replaced the drivers in. I am pretty sure that I replaced them with the Dayton Audio 6 1/2 classic woofer. They were just sitting in the basement and I had just built a new computer. I really loved my Altec Lasing speakers but wanted something more musical. So I started looking at amplifiers and other computer speaker systems that were out there. I finally decided on this amplifier and the polk audio monitor speakers. Very glad I did, these blow away what I had musically. The tonality, fullness of range everything is so much better. Granted they don't have the bass because I had a the THX Altec Lasings but these are much more musical. The only complaint I have is more about the background noise. I am sure its not the amplifier but something to do with either the grounding in the house or the computer itself. This morning I pulled the computer apart and tried to figure out if I could get rid of the buzz. I have somewhat removed it, but its not the amplifier.
Also this is rated at 75 watts into 2 channels at 4 ohms not 8 ohms. It really doesn't seem like a 30 watt amplifier at all and I would bet the amperage your pushing is much higher than most 75 watt amplifiers. Amperage is what you need to really move a speaker so keep that in mind. Its better than my first Sony receiver which was rated at 100 watts per channel. I have never had this clip or the fan cut on and that is important. If you have 100 watts and its clipping then you can blow a speaker. This doesn't clip at all or seem to get hot.
The only complaint I have is what others have mentioned. The auto on really takes a good signal to turn on. I have tried to turn it down and had it cut off on several occasions. You can manually turn it on and off which might be my alternative since it sits right next to me. I could see that this could be an issue for some people.

I purchased two of these to run mono on my system while I rebuild my tube amplifiers. These things sound so good I'm in no hurry to complete the tube project. They sound amazing. I also put them up against my Carver T15 and these sound a little better actually. I opened one up and they are built like tanks. How they get away with selling these for $125 blows my mind. Definitely worth the money. I'm not even going to attempt to mod upgrade. Now that's saying allot.

I like that this amp doesn't have alot of the extra unnecessary frills that you get (and pay for) with most receivers. It is intended to take an audio signal and push drivers with it, and it does that pretty well. I won't bother listing everything that it does right; the high ratings speak to that, but i will note a couple cautionary points.
1.) The auto on/off is a bit geriatric. The input signal has to be LOUD to wake it up from standby. It will also turn off very quickly (less than 2 minutes) during quiet periods in movies or video games. Suspenseful music is not enough to keep it awake at comfortable listening levels.
2.) I haven't seen the fan kick in yet, despite the chassis feeling quite warm to the touch. It has not gotten hot enough to produce the infamous cooking amp smell, but i would have greater piece of mind if i could catch that fan on at least once.
It works well and sounds great; those couple points are all that kept it from getting a couple 5's.

i bought this powered amplifier to use with non-audiofile speakers cerwin vega at-8's which had broken foam surrounds so i replaced the surrounds from a kit here at parts express. speakers are rated 100w@4ohm92 or so. i thought 75rms would be plenty of power for these speakers. can get very loud and stay very clean at high levels.
PRO: great power output, high level inputs, low level inputs with outputs, can be used as IMO a low powered subwoofer in stereo 4ohms or bridged 8ohms, simple face plate, non-click volume dial also smooth and tight, size is very efficient, weight does not matter because its not a weight lifting object.
CON: no low level outputs for running full range speakers in stereo and have a powered subwoofer running output, power light on is bright blue and no dimmer switch, low pass filter only can go down to 50hz a bit lower would have been nice if you were to use as dedicated subwoofer amplifier, no remote control function.
this power amplifier is one of new favorite power amplifiers but would still like to see something this small and produce the amout of power as my kenwood basic m2's and m2a's 220rms@8ohms%0.004thd
i love the amplifier thank you dayton audio and thank you parts express

I have had the amp about a week. It took me a day or so to figure out how to use it effectively. I was trying to use the volume control as if it was a preamp control, not what it was designed for. My plan was to use it without a preamp, I only have one input but as good as it sounds I am moving my turntable so I will use a selector switch and phono preamp. Even without a preamp it has plenty of power to drive my vintage AR-5s that are very inefficient, I thought I would need two and almost bought 2 but one is just fine. Everything about this amp is quality, nice metal case, nice knobs and connectors and great clean sound. If I didn't know it was made in China I would think it was made in Japan or USA when they made good amp. It runs fairly cool, my other amps you can fry eggs on. So far so good, if it lasts like my Onkyos have, I will be one happy camper. The price was sure right, my Marantz is going on Ebay as soon as it gets out of the shop.

This is a great amp. It has no glaring audible issues. Darn good value.
It could use a couple of modifications. For example, it doesn't have enough gain to really drive the amp to full volume from a ipod. 6dB more gain would do it. Also, when using the low pass feature for a sub, it needs lots more gain.
As for being a stereo amp, it is very respecable, and I measured the distortion and it is at least as good as specified. It is a good solid basic amp. I've only had the fan go on during sine wave testing, which is good. It has been shorted and survived. Puts out 50 Watts into 8 ohms stereo.
If that is all you need, this is it.
The input board can be modified to increase the gain for an ipod if you know what you are doing.
Two resistors (one per channel) right next to the 5532. Change the 1k to a 3k or 3.33k and it drives well from an ipod.

While from a hype perspective, Class D/T/proprietary what have you 'it's another PWM amplifier' may be the new Class A, to my ears, having tested just about every entry-level amp that I can get my penny-pinching audiophile hands on, this is definitely the one to get. The dynamics, power, speed and accuracy (especially in the low end) you're going to get out of a well built A/B amp will handily best anything you're likely to hear out of a comparably priced Tripath amp, and this is easily the best built amplifier I've seen or heard at this price point. If you look at the distortion numbers in the power band, they're well below anything you're going to hear anyways, and 75 watts a side is really a sweet-spot number for most speaker applications. The fact that you can bridge it and use it as a subwoofer amp (which I have done as well) is just gravy, and for most sane home theater applications, 150 watts is going to do you just fine. I probably have half a dozen of these beauts performing various duties around my studio and home theater, and I really couldn't be more pleased. In a perfect world, I would love to see a 4 ohm stable monoblock version of this sans the volume pot someday; if the price stayed the same, I'd dare go so far as to say that might be the perfect budget amp. Exactly as they are though, these amps are fantastic.

Overall nice little packeage,
Size of unit is nice and does not take up alot of space,
The power output is amazing for such a small unit and for it's price range,
Well built easy to use controls and connections,
I do not have the issue that some have reported with the wild gain control, could be I have it set a one point, and using an external volume control I built for another setup before.
The only reason I did not give it 5 stars on features is that the crossover when running in sub mode or low pass still has a little bit of bleedthrough so it is not completely blocking some of the higher frequencies and/or vocals.
Using for a home studio/PC powered subwoofer build along with some M-Audio monitors I rebuild with compnents from Parts Express
(1)Dayton APA150
(2)Kicker Solo-Baric S8C old school 8" true subs
(1)Custom built enclosure .68ft^3 with about half a pound of polyfill
Plays down around and below the rated 28Hz went low as maybe around 20Hz

I have a 10" Sonance Moderno DVC in-wall subwoofer running off of this amp at 4.6 ohms bridged with no problem for the last few weeks.
Sound is clean and the knob is set at about 60%. I did have problems with the auto on at first but I easily fixed that by turning up the sub out signal to +9db and it works great now. The amp turns on and off with no pop as others have said and is one of the best features.
Single channel wasn't enough to push the sub to the level I wanted so I decided to bridge it and hope it lasts. The fan does kick on after about 15-20 minutes and the amp chassis is barely warm compared to my Onkyo TX-NR609 that's driving the other 7 channels. I usually put about 4 hours of solid use every night and I had a day where I played music straight for 10 hours at a loud volume with no problems. I think this amp is going to last me at 4 ohms bridged for awhile but will let you guys know when it dies.
Other thoughts: Blue LED light is way too bright (like a pocket LED flash light) but easily fixed by putting something over it.

4 ohms !

Is it still holding up well at 4 ohm ? I intend to use two if these to drive a pair of Magnepan MMG's 4 ohm speakers. If they seem to do fine at 4 ohms I think they would be perfect for my speakers. Any opinions ?

Still running strong bridged at 4ohms
Posted January 6, 2012
Its been about 4 months and no problems. I actually kicked up the gain 10% the last few months and still no problems. My typical use is still around 2 hours in the morning and about 4 in the evening everyday. Weekends see more play and often have music running for the most time we are home.

I was looking for a small sized amp with ample power for my music room. It had to be powerful enough to hear jam tracks or other music with electric guitars, basses, and a drummer.
I'm using Sony SS-B3000 speakers with it in mono to keep everything at the rated 8 ohms. The Sony's are 8 ohms.
Others have mentioned the unit not getting enough drive with an iPod or other device using headphone jacks to supply the amp's input source. I haven't had a single problem with that or anything else. The volume/gain control is smooth and useful from 0 to 100%.
It just works and works well and has no problem keeping up with up during our practice sessions.
I would buy another one in a heartbeat!

I have been dealing with "partsexpress" for quite a few years now and never had a negative experience with their products. For the last few years I have been building my "Man Theater" and I am finally completeing it with this amp.
I moved to Orlando, Florida in 2007 and bought a home with a "Florida Room" and after weighing the "pro's & con's" I decided to close in that room and make it into a "Home Theater Room". I hired a contractor and had it changed into part of my home. Tore everything down and had new walls and roofline built and the finished room was 22'x22'x9' a really nice size room for my audio & video needs. Over the years I have been buying all new equipment to fill that room and right now I have a 60" plasma T.V. with a 1000watt Yamaha amp with a 9.1 speaker system which includes my sweet "Dayton Audio T1503K 1Mk III5 Titanic 1000 Watt Subwoofer". It gave me pleanty of bass but I really wanted to feel it and not just hear it, so I decided to purchase 2 "Clark Synthesis TST239 Silver Tactile Transducer Bass Shaker" and mounted both of them under my leather recliner sofa. After relizing that I couldn't hook them up to my "Mk III5" Titanic 1000 Watt Subwoofer" I wrote an e-mail to "partsexpress" and asked what would be my best option for an amp that would be very good for those transducers without over kill. The following day I received a reply back from them saying my best bet would be the "Dayton Audio APA150 150W Power Amplifier". I ordered it and it just arrived today and I have to say just by the weight of it "almost 14lbs." told me that they don't just use an "output power transistor" they use a "power transformer with a cooling fan" quality?, I think so! and at a price that can't be beat.
As I said I have been dealing with "partsexpress" for quite a few years and I'll tell you these people deal with what equipment you have and match the products they sell to what would fit best for the type of system you own. Their not like alot of other companies that try to sell you the best they have in order to make a bigger sale. So, what I have to say to you guy's at "partsexpress, thumbs up" this is one of the reasons why I have been a faithful customer of yours for the last 10+ years and looking forward to another decade of your fine products and prices.
I will be back after I hook-up the "Dayton Audio APA150 150W Power Amplifier" to my transducers and let you guy's know how it is, "I'm sure it will be favoritable" until then, everyone enjoy.
Pete C.

I bought this amp to power a pair of bookshelf speakers in my garage, using an Airport Express as the source device. I really appreciate the auto on/off feature since I have this amp mounted in a hard to reach location.
This amp has plenty of power and easily drives these bookshelf speakers even though they have a relatively low efficiency rating of 84 db. To keep from annoying the neighbors, I've got the amp set to 25% and I use the software volume controls in iTunes to lower the volume. So far, the internal fan hasn't even kicked on.
If there's one feature I wish the amp had, it would be a high pass filter since these bookshelf speakers have no business trying to produce sound below 80 Hz. Also, I opted to use banana plugs to connect the speakers to the amp.. the binding posts are rather close together and wiring them direct with 14 ga wire could be tricky if you're mounting the amp in a tight space.

I have it hooked it up to my PC with the ASUS Xonar STX and Yamaha NS-30X speakers. Sounds phenomenal. I have no real complaints about it at all.
Never get's hot at the volumes I use it, just slightly warm.
I read a few review about the auto shut off feature being a problem. Me personally, I haven't run into that unless i'm playing music really quiet, 'really' quiet.
The ability to branch/stack amps from this one is a nice touch. I haven't used it yet but i'm sure I will eventually.
I really like the fact that it's so simple. There's no equalizer adjustments, no real bells and whistles. Just a plain amp that works and boy does it!

I bought this amplifier as a low cost alternative to more expensive type AB amps. I use it mainly for music in a very small apartment. If you want a audiofile setup in a bedroom or den, this is not a bad choice. It features a low pass adjustable frequency cross over for use as a sub-woofer amp only or can be used as a "flat" main amplifier, a stereo/mono switch and an auto-on either/or feature. It takes a number of seconds before it turns on when it detects the source, though... so, if you pause the source and come back to play it, it doesn't go back on right away. There is no headphone jack, so you will need to set up a headphone amplifier if your source doesn't have one. It has only one set of inputs #I have a source selector# and one set of outputs which allows you to use a headphone amp even when it is off so you don't have to leave the amp on all the time. What you see is what you get in the front... no frequency adjustments. But, the amp is so clean sounding I personally don't need the adjustments. Works well with 8 ohm speakers and I found the device loud enough for my little living room. 2 inch clearence is recommended on the top and the unit is quite deep. So, if you are interested in a basic audiofile amplifier with only a volume knob for a small room, I would recommend it.
